Nick AI
A chat interface inspired by Claude. Next.js, a dark and light theme, a streaming layout, and markdown. It is design and frontend, not a complete AI system.
Problem
I wanted to try building a clean chat UI in the style of current AI products: typography, bubbles, a streaming state, markdown, and a theme switch, without building a whole model stack.
Solution
Nick AI is an open-source Next.js app focused on the interface: a Claude-inspired layout, a dark and light theme, markdown rendering, and streaming replies through a simple /api/ai endpoint. The AI backend is deliberately just a contract. The useful part is the frontend and the UX.
- A chat UI with a responsive layout
- Dark and light theme (dark by default)
- Streaming replies and markdown (code blocks, formatted text)
- Stack: Next.js, React, Tailwind CSS
My role
Author of the UI and the frontend: the design, the implementation, and a public repository under MIT. It does not run its own LLM, and it is not a finished production AI product.
Result
A public project on GitHub. A reference chat shell you can connect to any streaming endpoint.
